THE SOLDIERS OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE MUSEUM

Welcome to the first edition of the monthly news roundup from the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum. The following editions will update you on the latest happenings at the Museum as well as reminding you of some key events in our history.

The museum web site is now merged with some of our archives which is a major ground breaking technical achievement and we are leading the way in museum web site technology. The plan to fully import and digitise our archives will take many years but we have embarked on the process. The names and details of all officers and soldiers who served in the Gloucestershire Regiment during the First World War are now on the web site. We will be adding names of those served in the 19th Century shortly. The link to the web site is here http://www.glosters.org.uk- do have a look.

As we run up to Christmas I remind you that our museum internet shop contains memorabilia, books and many other items from The Gloucestershire Regiment, The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars and The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment (RGBW). The RGBW was merged with other regiments to form the RIFLES in 2007. Some of the battalions have already served in Iraq and Afghanistan and we will be telling their story in the museum as well. The museum also does research enquiries and details of this are on the web site. Order quickly to receive your goods before Christmas !

The museum is a registered charity. All proceeds go towards the museum which maintains the memories of those brave soldiers who fought for their country.

Wherever you are in the world, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a peaceful and safe 2008.
